GOING PLACES!

GOING PLACES!

Grab a map or an atlas. Close your eyes and flip through the pages of the atlas, move your finger over the map and let it land somewhere. Where are you? Spend some time researching this place on the internet and collect as much information about it as you can. Then sit down to write and imagine your character arriving in this place for the first time.

Always try to describe all the sensory details that will paint the scene and avoid explaining your characters emotions. Think about how they got there (forget about why) and describe what they hear, see, smell, touch, taste.

If you don’t have a map or an atlas, you can use the yellow Street View man and drop him somewhere in Google Maps. A bit harder to do with your eyes closed but give it a try!
