OPPOSITES ATTRACT

WABB LAB – LOVE – DAY 2

Opposite characters give endless opportunities to write any kind of story and they work great in love stories too!

People don’t fall in love because they are similar.
They fall in love because something works despite their differences.

The exercise

Create two characters who are very different.

Choose two opposing traits:

  • planner ↔ improviser
  • quiet ↔ talkative
  • cautious ↔ reckless
  • OCD ↔ ADHD
  • macho ↔ feminist

What to write

Write a scene where:

  • their differences are obvious (show, don’t tell)
  • their differences cause friction
  • one small thing unexpectedly draws them closer

Do not:

  • explain compatibility
  • soften their differences

Rules

  • Dialogue allowed
  • One shared activity
  • End with a subtle shift
